Fusion Festival is a transformative celebration of music, art, and community, held annually on a former airfield in Lärz, Germany. With around 70,000 participants, it offers a unique, sponsor-free space rooted in counterculture, creativity, and collective expression.
Rooted in the ethos of “holiday communism”, Fusion creates a temporary autonomous zone: an immersive, sponsor-free space that nurtures community, creativity, and ecological consciousness through shared experiences and collective expression.
Fusion Festival offers a rich and eclectic soundscape ranging from electronic genres like techno, house, trance, drum & bass, and dubstep to live acts in hip-hop, reggae, punk, jazz, folk, rock, and experimental fusion. With no headliners and a surprise-only lineup, music discovery becomes part of the magic.
Held on a repurposed Soviet airbase in Lärz, Germany, the site features grassy airstrips, hangars, lakes, and open landscapes. This raw industrial-meets-nature backdrop creates a unique playground for expression and community building.
Workshops at Fusion range from expressive arts and movement to skill-sharing and political discourse. They are designed to be participatory, grassroots, and spontaneous, reflecting the festival’s DIY ethos.
Fusion’s “Black Market” is a vibrant area filled with independent vendors offering handmade crafts, clothing, art, accessories, and holistic goods. Alongside the market, food stands serve only vegetarian or vegan options sourced sustainably.
Beyond music, Fusion is known for its rich performance program featuring theater, cabaret, roaming characters, circus, and live cinema. These acts often pop up unexpectedly, blending activism, comedy, and experimental art in public spaces.
The festival hosts around 20 unique stages, including Seebühne, Trancefloor, Cabaret, and Hangarbühne, each with its own style, vibe, and scenography. From massive dance floors to intimate ambient zones, each space is an immersive experience of sound and visuals.
Fusion Festival operates with a deep commitment to ecological and social consciousness. The event is entirely sponsor-free and runs without commercial advertising, allowing the community and culture to take center stage. All food vendors serve only vegetarian or vegan options, aligning with the festival's values around sustainability and ethical consumption. Guests receive a reusable garbage bag upon entry and are expected to take personal responsibility for waste, with a refundable garbage deposit encouraging a leave-no-trace approach. Additionally, since 2014, an onsite Awareness Team has promoted mutual respect, consent, and collective care throughout the grounds.
Camping is fully integrated into the Fusion experience, with no separation between the living and festival areas—guests set up tents directly within the creative sprawl of the site. For those arriving with vehicles or campers, designated zones are available, though entry requires a specific ticket. The atmosphere is decentralized and fluid, encouraging people to create their own living spaces as part of the festival landscape.
Food at Fusion is entirely plant-based, with dozens of stalls offering diverse vegetarian and vegan meals sourced from local and sustainable providers. From global street food to comforting staples, the culinary offerings are designed to nourish the body while respecting the Earth.
